Sprint Takeover, Letters, Trouble! [UPDATED 4/22, 1:10 PM]

Sprint Takeover, Letters, Trouble! [UPDATED 4/22, 1:10 PM] The natives are angry again from what I'm hearing. Sounds like some Chicago customers received their letters today informing them of their options... or should I say, lack of options. Here's what I'm hearing:
  • US Cellular forcing you to redeem reward points. -- Kind of confused here? How are they forcing you?
  • Customers will not be able to redeem rewards points after the sale to Sprint.
 Customers will not be able to accrue additional rewards points after the sale to Sprint.
 Customers must redeem rewards points before the sale to Sprint is complete and their rewards balance will show as zero once the sale is complete.
 We encourage customers with rewards to redeem them as soon as possible.
  • No specials for transferring account to Sprint.
  •  Sprint is offering robust incentives to help U.S. Cellular customers make the transition.
  • NOT treated as new customer even. Meaning no discounted phones if I understand correctly
  • Customers who move their number(s) to Sprint can take advantage of new customer discounted pricing on handsets.
  • No comparable packages. I haven't checked this fully as I'm headed to bed but expect me to research this ASAP. ----- I agree here. The cheapest Family Plan with unlimited data is $149.99 even if you want less minutes. You could always go off contract but then you're phone options keep decreasing.
  • US Cellular phones cannot be transferred/unlocked to be used on Sprint network even for a short while.
This is just a short list that I received from a member located in Chicago. Anyone else received their letter? Anyone got a copy they could send us?

I know there's a discussion in the forum but what are you all doing now that you officially got your letters? Are you even more/less upset? Interested in all comments below.

(I will update this story as I do some research.)

Well if that is all true that sucks.  Telling you that your phone won't work on their system and that you need a new one and in the same breath telling you that you don't qualify as a new customer and will need to pay full price.  That really blows, I would be looking into another company and paying ETF, it might be cheaper.

how could they NOT be treated as a new customer? I smell some lawsuits.

Our parent company uses USCC in Chicago, they have not been pleased with the situation but have not said what they will do.

is no one smart enough to drop USCC now and just sign up with sprint as a new customer?

"  Customers who move their number(s) to Sprint can take advantage of new customer discounted
pricing on handsets.

  Sprint will offer robust incentives for U.S. Cellular customers."

I think the robust incentives and generous incentives verbage in there was just beat to death.

in other words, as a consumer your screwed, Sprint isn't going to go out of their way to give you anything worth getting.

As a business you may be ok, though again they wont go out of their way to break the bank in incentives.

Found this...

His link answers some of these concerns. I copied some of the sections. I'm not from the sold areas but I think how this is handles speaks to the character of us cellular. I was taken back by what you stated on the blog so I read through that link to see if it was true.

Thanks!  Modifying story now

Why not just "move" to Wisconsin until your contract ends?

If you have autopay just change your billing address to a covered address on the website.  They will continue to bill your credit card so they won't really care but they will send a confirmation to the new address so it may be best to have a friend or relative at that address.  In the future, if they ever complain you could just say you moved from that Wisconsin address and never got around to letting them know.

Ok let me clear something up here. I live in Chicago and my family ALL uses USCC.

Affected areas: Chicago & St. Louis because USCC is selling their towers to Sprint.

The letter stated NO we can NOT transfer our phones and we Must use or lose our points which REALLY SUCKS since I just got a Galaxy Axiom from USCC in December/

As for transferring the phone s, plans, or options from SPRINT... there are NONE. In fact I was on the phone with Sprint for over 2 hours and they STILL do not have any options other than becoming NEW customers even though we are forced to go to them unless we kill everything all together.

SPRINT rep even said they have to re-run everyones credit coming from USCC as they are NOT treating it as a transfer even though we have no other options in these areas. Sprint still doesn't even know if they will offer ANY discounts, free phones to USCC customers because and I quote "Technically we are NOT consuming a company only certain areas that the company chose to sell because it was too consuming for them to operate in those areas." ARE YOU KIDDING ME> Do you know how many USCC customers are in Chicago alone. They make up over 45% of the cell coverage for private persons and over 30% of businesses

.

My Brother in law even asked if he could use his other house out of state as the primary... USCC Said NO and if a majority of your nation wide call reside from other than your Home Area USCC will TERMINATE any and ALL contracts you have with them as they consider it Fraud under their TOS agreements. I confirmed this myself today while on the phone with USCC... which IRONICALLY ENOUGH has their headquarters in CHICAGO. What sense does that make? Can there be ANY legal options for us current USCC customers being effected by this? is there something the FCC can do? In all honestly ok if they want us to go to SPRINT fine, BUT we should be able to unlock our phones for transfer considering we are being consumed had a majority of peoples phones in these areas are less than 1 year old because of the promotions they had. Heck I had one of the very first AXIOM even before SAMSUNG had it listed on their website or even had TECH SUPPORT for their product. Not to mention the new ballistic case I purchased for the phone. I now have a brand newish ( Still has the original plastic on the screens ) with a new ballistic shell for over a $450.00 value and it's going to turn into a PAPER WEIGHT? REALLY NICE USCC Nice how you treat your customers.

Here's the biggest kicker. I was on the phone with USCC Customer Service as well. Not only are they starting to refuse to assist customers in this area but they won't even refund / pro-rate your service if you leave to go to Sprint since they sent out the letters on Friday. Sprint is a bit price , Verizon... NO WAY. AT&T Forget about it... we have NO OPTIONS and Many unanswered questions yet to come.

So again I ask and I am requesting assistance. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO STOP THIS? WHAT OTHER OPTIONS ARE THERE? Can WE FORCE THEM TO ALLOW OUR PHONES TO BE UNLOCKED BECAUSE OF THIER BACK ALLEY DEALINGS IN WHICH THEY STILL WON'T GIVE THIER CUSTOMERS PROPER INFORMATION OR PROPER NOTIFICATION LET ALONE SPRINT IS TREATING US LIKE BASTARD CHILDREN..... PLEASE HELP. I have no problem going in on a Class action lawsuit if applicable because this is outrageous let alone a slap in the face of those whom have been loyal USCC customers. Heck I've been with them since they took over Primeco here in Chicago. So we are talking over 10 / 11 years now round about. How's that for a slap in the face to those whom were loyal customers and always had their bills paid ahead of time.

So yes PLEASE let me know what I can do because not only am I frustrated with the lack of information but I am PISSED as a consumer on how I am being treated let alone technically screwed over.

Just so you know, YES, I did contact the FCC about this and there has been No response to date. I have even contacted them again on Monday when I received the letter from USCC... Yet still no response. Seems the fat cats can do what they want because their too big to fail. Once again the consumer is no longer having services being properly rendered in good faith and is being screwed out of agreements and hard earned money.

Thank you for any and all help.

There are a whole bunch of people complaing on USCC's Facebook page. Whoever was dumb enough to buy a phone after the sale was announced LAST NOVEMBER has no reason to complain. Since when has any other contract Cdma carrier allowed another carriers phone on their network?Everybody is all worried about the money they paid for their phone. Sell it on Ebay , you'll make money on the deal. No phone is higher than $200 right now at Sprint.(except Motorola ES400S)

Lastly this talk of lawsuits,do you really think US Cellular doesn't have lawyers that don't have this figured out? You can waste your time all you want, nothing is going to change. Get over it and move on,that is what I would do.

Just an opinion from the other side who is sick and tired of all the whining about it.

"which REALLY SUCKS since I just got a Galaxy Axiom from USCC in December"

What did you pay for that Axiom back in December?  A penny?  You should call them and tell them you want your money back.

It’s best that USCC is selling these markets now rather than waiting a year when every other carrier has LTE and they begin losing tons of customers

By the way the pdf is worded, i would hope USCC would nullify all its contracts and allow users in affected markets to pick their carrier either on or soon after the sale date but I don’t know anything for sure either.

if you choose to stay with sprint and are worried about how much you just spent for your new phone:

https://secure.sprin....com/cns/select

(please note this is the current sprint buy back plan for SPRINT CUSTOMERS. I do not know if other carriers offer something similar)

fyi:  currently after returning a Samsung Axiom (for $70) you can get a new HTC One for $30, a GS4 for $80, or a GS3 for free + $70 in your pocket (honestly those are awesome deals)

Sprint will not activate your USCC phone.  Don’t ask.  If you were expecting a policy that makes sense...move to europe.  You won’t find it here.

Adding a feature phone on the $149.99 plan is $9.99. Unfortunately it is not listed on their website... so my family will be paying the same amount minus whatever discounts we can find

I’m only hoping for waived activation fees, if I have to pay those I'll look around a little more before I make a final decision.

First of all I never heard ANYTHING about the sprint sale until February otherwise I would NOT have purchased the phone

Second I am NOT whining I am plainly stating the information that I now know

Third, SPRINT IS NOT OFFERING ANYTHING to USCC customers being forced out of USCC because of the BS USCC just pulled.

I Hope the FCC stops this and YES I have heard of phones being unlocked and I hope the federal law goes into place to allow ANYONE to unlock ANY phone regardless of service to more to another service provider.

Fourth, if your sick of the information the IGNORE IT.

I posted my post to request any options or thoughts on what I can legally do. That is all

More than a penny

Question regarding "currently after returning a Samsung Axiom (for $70)" so does that mean sprint will buy the Axiom even though it's a USCC phone? I did see it listed but I didn't know if that included the USCC phones.

I only ask because Sprint has been absolutely NO help towards my inquiries.

Not only have I been given the run around via their call in sales, but the stores themselves have absolutely no information at this time. I am looking to make the move next month so I can cash in the remainder of my rewards points before this sale finalizes.

I'd like to see what Sprint is going to offer but I really hate having my credit ran since I am trying to buy a house and you know how credit inquiries can effect a sale. Gotta love the double standard.

I think it's too early to say Sprint is offering NOTHING. Way I've read everything they have yet to decide exact plans. Why get so worked up until the OFFICIAL word is in which is clearly not happened yet.

My problem is you came on this site and started an account 4 days ago, and made a couple posts specifically to whine about this subject only.

The Axiom in the list has the same model number as the USCC version, so yes.  They will pay you for it and they will recycle or repurpose it.

I only ask because Sprint has been absolutely NO help towards my inquiries.

Not only have I been given the run around via their call in sales, but the stores themselves have absolutely no information at this time. I am looking to make the move next month so I can cash in the remainder of my rewards points before this sale finalizes.

Right now if you are still under contract all you can do is use up your remaining points before they disappear when the sale is completed.  Sprint will come out with offers in the next few weeks but all that will probably appear in a blog post or on the forum.  You need to be patient.  Reading posts on this website, you find out things that most employees wont know for a few weeks.  Use your new found super power wisely.

All I want to know is if there is a tentative date.  My letter said within the next few weeks but I have no clue what that really means.

As for me I am going with T-Mobile.  I will be getting unlimited everything for the same price as what I pay now to USCC for only 2GB of data, and 450 minutes.  I have friends who say it works pretty well in chicago, plus I prefer GSM over CDMA, mainly for browsing the web while talking on the phone.

Seems like you all didnt READ what that letter states. LEGALLY the CANT and ARENT FORCING anyone to change to Sprint. HOWEVER if u do no credit check or deposit. Phones at NEW customer PRICE, Buyback programs from both companies. Even if you are in contract once the sale completes NO EARLY TERMINATION FEE if you dont move to Sprint! This is un-needed stress listening to rumors or the game of telephone. Call USCC and ASK! there is a number to call Sprint specifically for USCC customers! Get some more info, REAL info people!!
