It's here! Yea, you're going to say, "But, it's not December 19th!" I don't care. Thanks to our amazing team and supporters here it is a week early!

While there are some minor UI changes, tweaks, etc. the major changes are under the hood. Below is a list of major changes:

  • Soft buttons from Android 3.x are now available for use on phones
  • Separation of widgets in a new tab, listed in a similar manner to apps
  • Easier-to-create folders, with a drag-and-drop style
  • A customizable launcher
  • Improved visual voicemail with the ability to speed up or slow down voicemail messages
  • Pinch-to-zoom functionality in the calendar
  • Integrated screenshot capture (accomplished by holding down the Power and Volume-Down buttons)
  • Improved error correction on the keyboard
  • Ability to access apps directly from lock screen
  • Improved copy and paste functionality
  • Better voice integration and continuous, real-time speech to text dictation
  • Face Unlock, a feature that allows users to unlock handsets using facial recognition software
  • New tabbed web browser under Google's Chrome brand, allowing up to 16 tabs
  • Automatic syncing of browser with users' Chrome bookmarks
  • A new typeface family for the UI, Roboto
  • Data Usage section in settings that lets users set warnings when they approach a certain usage limit, and disable data use when the limit is exceeded
  • Ability to shut down apps that are using data in the background
  • Improved camera app with zero shutter lag, time lapse settings, panorama mode, and the ability to zoom while recording
  • Built-in photo editor
  • New gallery layout, organized by location and person
  • Refreshed "People" app with social network integration, status updates and hi-res images
  • Android Beam, a near-field communication feature allowing the rapid short-range exchange of web bookmarks, contact info, directions, YouTube videos and other data
  • Support for the WebP image format[52]
  • Hardware acceleration of the UI[63]
  • Wi-Fi Direct[64]
  • 1080p video recording for stock Android devices

I feel like a kid on Christmas morning downloading this, and it is not even for my phone!

Cannot wait to try it in about a half hour on my wifes phone.

Thanks to all involved for getting this to us early!

Disgusting. It's just terrible, the 19th better be the date for the JB GS3. Congratulations to those GS2 owners.

I agree. That is the file that I'm waiting on.

Just think that we would have had it were it not for the bloatware update a few months back.

I notice this is FK19, the manual on Sammy's website has it listed as "User Manual (User Manual) (ver.FJ05_F3)" what's the difference? is this the "official" or just a sprint port or something else?

I suggest caution unless folks know what they are doing. This is not showing up on the Software Updates on US Cellular site.

Good point.  With the help of a couple board members here it wasn't too hard to flash.  Personally I'd say it's legit because it comes with all the usual USCC bloatware, plus a little extra.  It also seems to work fine on my phone.

I'm completely irked if this is all we're getting.  While everyone else was getting ICS we were stuck on GB and not that everyone is getting JB we'll be getting ICS.  It's such bull.  I better get JB.  I'm tired of OEM's lack of up-to-date updates.  Maybe next year USCC can finally get a Nexus...although I really like a lot of the added features in TW.  grr...

1) Android Beam will work on the S2?  Does it have the necessary hardware to support that?

2) Does the phone need to be wiped - or can everything be left in place?

3) If the answer to #2 is that it does need to be wiped, will that be different when USCC officially releases it?

I do not seem to have several of these features after the update. Such as: Visual voice mail (although I've never had visual voice mail coming from gingerbread - am I supposed to have it?), time-laspe setting in the camera, new gallery layout, and the people app. Also, how do I access apps from the lock screen? My lock screen looks just like my old lock screen. :/

Edit: I also don't have the panoramic option or (in camera app) editing options or video effects (not mentioned here but I read it somewhere else). Honestly, my camera looks nothing like the ics ones I have seen in pictures. It looks/functions just like my old one.

Thanks!

Seems that I'm missing is the customizable UI and the Widget tab.

Doesn't seem I can access apps from my lock screen, though, this really isn't a loss to me.

And so far the battery life is about the same as GB was.

Also, my GPS is having massive issues finding a signal, but I'm going to try that a little more when I actually can see more than just clouds - might even try the battery pull once I can get a signal lock.

I never had visual voice mail before.

Camera looks exactly the same, but I'm not missing any functions that I can tell and the quality is significantly better than it was before.

No people app, contacts is roughly the same, small changes it looks like.

The Gallery looks exactly the same and with it's update added a great deal of folders and stuff that has been gone for quite a while (no worries, I can always edit them out, just holy cow it's a lot).

The App page is kind off odd. It doesn't seem to have any real organization whatsoever and no way to do anything about it that I can see.

Otherwise, things seem decent. Gonna keep an eye on things, but so far it seems fine.

Thanks again for the leak. Woot!

Maybe we got an oldish build (fk19) because in the fb post they said texting featured would be added but my messaging app is identical and on Friday fk20 would be released. Just an unlikely thought

I'm starting to wonder that too.  It just seems like a couple things are missing, like a widgets tab.  Who knows though, I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

I'm starting to think so too.  I read things about how some folks were missing features like the widgets tab, the camera didn't look any different, etc.  I'm glad I waited, I've been staring at Gingerbread this whole time, what's 1 more day?  Especially when I can get the entire package from the site!

I fixed my GPS issue by waiting 15 minutes outside for a lock, pulled the battery and now it takes 5-10 seconds for a lock even in my basement.

Maybe our leak was before it was completed?  Regardless, it wasn't hard to change up to this build, so it shouldn't be hard to do their official one.  I'm likely going to swap to the "official" update tomorrow just to see if anything is different - it can't hurt if it's the same - just be slightly annoying.

Guess we'll find out if this leaked version is different tomorrow.  It isn't that far off.
