  5. Moto X4 compatible with U.S. Cellular

I have a fi SIM and it seems to favor TMobile and Sprint over us cellular at my place even though TMobile and Sprint are roaming at my home. I can force switch to us cell for a bit but it will eventually switch back to TMobile or Sprint. That's probably why you only saw 2g service. (I live in northern Maine btw) Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  6. Moto X4 compatible with U.S. Cellular

Interesting. Good info. Thanks. IO still may just buy another Pure. They're around here and there, brand new. I really like the simplicity of it, and have a much greater appreciation after seeing the crap that my wife has on her Samsung S7. We've been Motorola fans since our first cell phones, for a reason. It's my wife's first non Motorola phone, and she doesn't like it at all.
  7. Moto X4 compatible with U.S. Cellular

According to a conversation I had recently with US Cellular Tech support, they need to test the X4 before they will allow it to be activated. Although Google FI uses their towers, the signal is processed (voice, data, and messaging) by Google servers and not by US Cellular servers. Apparently they have had issues with changes being made in phone software which caused problems with this processing on their own servers. (That probably also explains why software updates are slower with android phones, as the carriers have to ensure that the changes won't mess up their data/voice/messaging processing). If FI had better coverage in the areas I need, I would consider using it. But, for example, at my home in Maine, FI only has 2G coverage, even though USC has 3G and 4GLTE coverage. Like someone else, I don't like the size of the Z2Pure. But my MotoX2 is getting old, and has limited memory. I'm hoping they will test and approve the X4 sometime soon.
  8. Phone to buy for ~$150-$200?

Wasn't it determined the G5 plus doesn't work on USC?

  12. Phone to buy for ~$150-$200?

Thanks for all the ideas - my son does really like the G5 and he doesn't want to root or try any other roms. I did check out the Nexus and Moto G4 and the Note 4, all great ideas! Now off to find the best deal - as little damage as possible for the best price. thanks again!
  13. Phone to buy for ~$150-$200?

I have a Note 4 that's in excellent shape. Not sure if your interested or not. I liked it more than the S7 Edge I have now; at least I could install different roms. Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk
  14. Phone to buy for ~$150-$200?

Used Nexus 6P is under $200, new battery (you'll likely need it at some point) is $15. Great camera, great phone, works on USCC Moto G4 is nice too, but I couldn't find a reliable battery replacement when my wife's failed My S5 is still going strong as a wifi toy, good luck finding something that bullet proof in your price range unfortunately Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk Edit: should mention there is a chance of bootloops with the 6P... It's a risk I was willing to take
  15. Phone to buy for ~$150-$200?

Great info - Thanks so much! I wonder if the camera lens is a very common problem? I'll try to find more info on that for sure. My sons not interested in root or anything (weird, right?) but anyway he does really want a good camera on the phone. EDIT: it does seem to be pretty common just doing a search on "LG G5 camera glass problem" brings the issue to light, but it also seems pretty easy to fix? Just pry off the old one and stick on the new for about $5 or so on ebay/amazon/aliexpress. Search directions on youtube. Any other advice is most welcome, please?!
  16. Phone to buy for ~$150-$200?

Since I moved to smart phones I had nothing but Samsung. Decided to give the LG G5 a try, moving from an S5. I was reluctant and not sure I'd like it, but wanted something new and didn't want to spend the coin on a S8. On my Sammys, I had rooted and custom ROMs. Haven't done any of that on the G5. I like it a lot. I know there are better phones, but it does everything I need. I wouldn't be affraid of it if I were you. Had it about 9 months now and no issues, with the exception of broken camera lens. My wife and I both cracked ours within a week of each other. Both have protective cases.
  17. OnePlus 5T or Razer Compatible?

The 5t supports BC0 (800mhz) CDMA band but not BC1 (1900mhz). It may work but you would be lacking voice service in some areas. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  18. Phone to buy for ~$150-$200?

I have a few Galaxy S5s in my family, and now another son wants a phone. He's not sure what to even look at, I love the S5s but he wants a step up from there. I thought the LG G5 looked good, but then there is almost no discussion of that phone, so I'm assuming it's not good? Any other suggestions? I usually buy off ebay, had pretty good luck so far. Not much money to spend on this, so anything over $200 is too much!
  19. OnePlus 5T or Razer Compatible?

Yeah. Neither phone has the correct radio bands to work on any CDMA carrier in the US. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

  21. OnePlus 5T or Razer Compatible?

I think the problem you'll run into is that neither phone has the necessary CDMA bands to make them compatible. (This is just a guess though, someone with more knowledge might add in)
  22. Anyone going to try either of these phones on USC? 1+ 5T says UsCellular is compatible I imagine I could say it's a Nexus 6 like many have in the past but how long are we going to get away with that? Razer phone looks Amazing, I'm not much of a mobile gamer but the possibility of the screen 120Hz no lag? 8GB Ram WOW come on. have no idea if compatible though. Thoughts?
  23. Hardware Problems Worth Fixing?

I would steer clear of the 6p's and 5x's... they are known for bootloops and battery issues. Mine is doing ok, but it does have the early shutdown issue if it gets cold. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  24. T-Mobile Coming to Iowa

I used to have good data speeds when I was on Sprint with my Epic 4G while using Roam Control, but I think that was a combination of an agreement with Alltel and that the Epic 4G seemed to roam better on 1900MHz than my S6 does. Cellcom currently has an agreement with Verizon, so it wouldn't surprise me to learn that magically any other network connecting to their towers is throttled.

  26. I've been keeping my eye on those. Wanted to get one last year, instead of this one, but it didn't seem like much of an upgrade for the price. The price is a lot more appealing now. I still worry about investing more than I have to in an older phone - even though it's heavily supported yet. I'm mainly looking to cut my losses. Whether I keep or sell this phone, I'll have to get it repaired, right? $130 doesn't seem worth it at all, especially when many say replacement screens are faulty. I'm really hoping taping over the connectors or reseating em will solve it, but I doubt I'll be that lucky. I know you can't sell one in this condition on Swappa, but maybe someone would pay $100 for it elsewhere? I rely so much on the navbar, but if I had to, I could use an alternative. If it starts rapidly ghost-tapping again, though, the phone is unusable.
  27. Pixel 32gb

    Valid point
  28. Pixel 32gb

Hey @mweba: I wouldn't post the IMEI publicly like that if it were my phone. Sending it in a PM to someone who asks for it (at your discretion) is fine, but it's not a good idea to just put it out there for anyone to see and potentially steal. It's not very hard (though extremely illegal) to re-assign IMEIs, and if someone uses your *valid* IMEI for nefarious purposes it could render your device unable to be registered to any network.
