    U.S. Cellular Service F.A.Q.

--[ANSWERS]-- Here is a comprehensive list of the MOST common questions about U.S. Cellular, it's service, and devices. This is GENERAL information, please see our Development Q&A for ....well, development F.A.Q.'s Updated 04/21/2015 *Updated unlocking information* Understand this post: Questions are BOLD and BLUE Answers are in the spoiler, click "Show" Added info is BOLD, UNDERLINED and PURPLE You will see the Questions posted in BLUE - Click the "Show" button to see the related answer. Example: Can I have an iPhone on U.S. Cellular? Can I use an iPhone from another wireless carrier on the U.S. Cellular network? Can I carrier "unlock" my U.S. Cellular phone? Can I take the SIM card out of my U.S. Cellular phone and use it in another device? Why can't I use GSM on my non-iPhone 4G LTE USCC device? Non-iPhone 4G LTE devices released before April 2015 are not certified by the FCC to operate on GSM, thus federal regulations require non-certified bands to be permanently disabled. Most USCC devices such as the S4 and Mega don't even have GSM hardware, it's been completely stripped off the phone. You may be able to activate your unlocked USCC device on a GSM network that supports VoLTE, but this is not guaranteed. Updated thanks to SBJ1998 I have an iPhone from U.S. Cellular, does it come pre-unlocked like the Verizon model? Partially, all iPhones from U.S. Cellular are already unlocked for use outside with GSM networks outside of the United States, but are locked to U.S. Cellular within in the United States and must be unlocked in order to activate on another network within the United States. Updated thanks to SBJ1998 Can I use my phone on U.S. Cellular again after unlocking it? All devices except the iPhone 4s can still be used on U.S. Cellular once they have been SIM unlocked. Why can't I use my 4s on U.S. Cellular after I unlock it? The iPhone 4s, all though a world phone, is manually programmed with USCC's PRL and doesn't require the use of a SIM to activate it. When the 4s is unlocked, the CDMA information is wiped from the phone and is impossible to reactivate on U.S. Cellular as the phone no longer has a way of contacting the network. This does not apply to the 5c, 5s, 6, and 6+ which may be reactivated on USCC after unlock because they use SIM cards to activate. Updated thanks to SBJ1998 How do I use my U.S. Cellular iPhone with another network in the United States? You will either need to call customer service or visit a U.S. Cellular store to have your iPhone unlocked, the rep will fill out a work-order request with the iPhone's IMEI number and will send it off to be unlocked. This process takes around a day to complete. Updated thanks to SBJ1998 FURTHER Q&A CONTENT WILL BE ADDED AS IT BECOMES NEEDED. - So stay tuned!

    Rewards System

The time has come to finally unveil the project I and the other staff (mostly Veritas and iRub1Out) have been working on. We feel it is wise and definitely worthy to reward our members who go above and beyond constantly for the site as well as just for the sake of helping others. For the past week, Veritas and I have been awarding points to certain members that we feel stand out. None of this has been visible to you all as we tested the system, nailed down details, gathered prizes, etc. Well... that is now changing! As of now, you all should be able to view your current point standings, the leaderboard, as well as the Store. We have gathered many great prizes that I think will satisfy most of our members as we roll out this system. We will of course be adding prizes over time as well as removing some if they are not so popular. To view our current list, visit http://teamuscellular.com/Forum/index.php?app=ibEconomy Back to the points. These will be awarded at Veritas and I's discretion ONLY. There is no secret formula to how we will give them out, how often, etc. The only real tip I can give is to be active, be helpful, and as always, be friendly. Both of us are constantly watching and we each see different things. Also, there is no "appeals" or "submitting" a link or such that you think qualifies for points. Personally, I read every post so if it's out there... I will see it. In closing, I promise we will make these prizes achievable. This is not going to be like the Belief Points that you can never actually redeem something. Again, we plan to add much greater value prizes *cough*Note 2 anybody?*cough* as time and funds allow. If there are any questions, feel free to post here or PM me!

And here we go again... Welcome to AICS, a heavily modified stock build for the d2usc. There are many tweaks and features that you'll find in this ROM, and hopefully you'll experience increased battery life, speedy segues, and a more appealing graphical presentation. I hope you find as much pleasure in using this modification as I did in building it. I take no responsibility for anything that happens to you or your phone. STOCK or SAUCE V5.1? The choice is yours, but it's pretty @#$% obvious. INSTRUCTIONS: (ROM) Wipe Data/Dalvik from recovery Flash BASE ROM FIRST - it'll reboot on it's own Enjoy! (APPS) (This is where all the removed apps from the system folder live.) Open zip and remove any unwanted apps. Add to sdcard, then flash as normal. FILES: Download here PNP App Package MORE SCREENS: Kernel Features: here Credits (in the order they hit my brain): Tator, Imoseyon, Rmarkwald, Bobby, Jae Kaer (sp?) joshbeach, David, Adam, Duane and everyone else (and anyone I missed) :-) Love you guys.

    [ARCHIVED SUPPORT] AwesomeICSauce

okay before we get too much back on topic I have a few things I'd like to say. For those of you that don't know me, I'm John, nice to meet you. I work Between 40-50 hours a week as a sheet metal fabrication engineer.my job is high risk an extremely dangerous, and it stresses me out to no end on a regular basis. Now, this is no ones fault but my own, but this being the status quo means that I'm fairly intolerable on a regular basis. For those that may of had the opportunity to read what mad Dog Wrote, sadly I agree with about 90 percent of what he said. granted he got a little carried away at the end, but the main content of both of those posts were extremely accurate as to describe the way that I feel. development is a hobby of mine, and it is something that I enjoy doing but it does get extremely old reading the same questions over and over again and realizing that people arent taking the time to do their part. As a developer, my contribution is the ROM. I take the time to test every single build personally so as to not break your phone. I typically try to include concise clear instructions on how to go from point A to point B with as little issue as possible. If people simply don't take the time to even read my instructions and follow them to the best of their ability, it does get irritating. As an end user the only thing I really expect you guys to do is to enjoy what I make. you guys can ask anyone here and they'll tell you that I have no problem giving out my phone number or email address so that people can contact me if they need help. but the 1 thing that I've come to expect is that you take the time to read this thread. There is a great deal of information and a great number of questions answered within the pages of this thread. if you don't do that then you're not only disrespecting me, honestly, by wasting my time, your disrespecting the other users of this forum by taking my time away from them. the few hours that I have of free time I tried to devote 2 making my ROM better for you guys. But you have to help me. Do your part: search. use the search feature of this forum, and use Google. You can actually type in the question in shortened form into Google and most likely get an answer from somewhere. I wish I had more time to devote to this post but unfortunately I've spent my entire lunch break trying to make sure that this point comes across appropriately. So now I have to go back to work I won't be home for another 5 to 6 hours so please try to play nice till I get back.

    I've got some personal news!

So I'm going to do it. I'm going to ask my girlfriend to marry me. I've already asked her father the retired police officer and got the ring built and have it in the gun safe. Going to do it Monday. Wish me luck. For anyone familiar with diamonds, it's an F SI1 triple X cut (colorless, ideal cut, no inclusions visible). Half carat. Sent from my SM-N900R4 using Tapatalk

Hey guys... As you may or may not know, US Cellular as of the 26th Oct have changed the pricing and policies of out of warranty (OOW) repair. What does this mean? Well it means that repair prices are going up DRASTICALLY and it also pretty much signals the end of getting any physical repairs done in store (if your tech was old enough to be able to do them/use a soldering iron) Out of Warranty will be pretty much anything that is deemed “normal wear and tear” as none of the manufacturers cover any kind of minimal damage under warranty. If its an actual electrical defect that is not caused by the user/misuse then that is pretty much all that is covered. Any cracks (even though its functional and even if you don’t want it to be replaced), missing pieces, damage to the back etc will NOT be covered. Prices are going to be based on the value of the device (Retail Price) and are tired as follows: Devices up to $300 in value (including all feature phones) $150.00 fee for ANY OOW Repair. Devices from $301-$500 in value $300.00 for ANY OOW Repair Devices from $501 + in value $550.00 for any OOW Repair. Remember this is for anything that is wrong with the device (Charging port, headphone jack etc – Parts that cost pennies in bulk..) and if they cant repair the device they will replace it for the same or like device for that charge. The charges will be charged up front before the phone is sent out and you can still get a loaner for 15 days... Talking about loaners, USCC is making sure all stores have smart-phone and feature phone loaners. However the price for losing it or not returning the loaner within 15 days of issue (Even if your phone is back from repair or not) is going up from $150 to $500. If you phone isn’t back you need to call into the store and let them know you need an extension on the loaner. The Techs will no longer be doing this and the honus is on the customer to be aware of it. Before this it was give loaner, wait till phone comes back.. Notify... week later notify... if still not back - Charge for non return... This is not happening anymore, and will be automatic and done in the system pretty soon after this launched yesterday... So all in all, pretty drastic changes. Some of which I do not agree with at all... But this is all to push Device protection/Apple-care as the better alternative than sending it out... So I have decided that I am going to do repairs myself with some friends. ( We have been thinking about this for a while and had registered our business back in July/August) Our Company is Solstice Technology Repair LLC and we have a Facebook page here : https://www.facebook.com/Solsticetechnologyrepair and a rudimentary web page here : http://solsticetec.net/ Please excuse the unfinished look of our website, we are trying to to this in our own spare time while also working full time in our “other” jobs.. If you need a repair send us the details of what is wrong and we will give you a free quote. Our prices are : Price of Parts (Minimum of $15 – to cover shipping etc) + $30.00 labor So for example: Charging port for S3 $45 total cost for repair If you went to US Cellular this would be a $300 repair – End of story... Of course Displays are going to start getting pricey, seeing that a S4 Display usually goes for around, $240, but even so that repair cost is still $285 vs $550 from US Cellular. Also in most cases you wont lose your data on the phone unless its a software issue that requires us to wipe the device to fix it (And most of you here are more than capable of doing software stuff yourself I should think) As a promotion for all Team Us Cellular Forum members, we are going to offer a 10% discount on all repairs. All we ask is that you spread the word and bring us more business, so we can grow and finally do this full time and quit our day jobs.... Thanks again.

Well, I am going to be pumping out nightlies at least once every two days, and will continue to even after CM starts doing nightlies! Eventually I want to add Active Display from the Moto X, and Halo 2.0. Just like Na7q's 10.2 builds. This will be build directly from source because building our own nightlies works now . Stay tuned for tonight's nightly! Doesn't Work? Everything works! Flashing: 1. Download the zip 2. Wipe data & cache partitions of your device (Optional, if you are coming from another 4.4) 3. Flashing the Rom 4. Install the PA Google Apps addon package 5. Reboot! Download: http://upload.teamuscellular.com/2Zw Gapps: http://upload.teamuscellular.com/2Yh KToonsez Kernel! Then I entered in; Name: LTE - USCC INTERNET APN: usccinternet MMSC: http://mmsc1.uscc.net/mmsc/MMS MCC: 311 MNC: 580 then I hit save, and 3g came right on. I will be the first one from my store with it, no matter how much I have to bed my mom. I give myself a day before I root it. Should be easy to "factory reset" it for them to check warranty? Has anyone read about that yet? Nexus' don't have anything as far as rooting goes to trip do they?Your typo really made me laugh...I certainly hope you don't have to bed your mom to get a new phone! Haha! Jk

I rooted my phone tonight using a simple one click method called kingoapp. WARNING: I take no responsibility if you brick or destroy your device. I am only posting how I rooted my phone and the method used. I am not associated in any way with kingoapp.com http://www.kingoapp.com/ Go to link Download the program and install Enable usb debugging Launch app and plug in phone when told,it will most likely download and install a driver simply follow the instructions for that, then follow the directions in the program. Was a really simple and pretty quick process, didn't wipe my internal either. Once I launched program and it installed drivers it took probably 5 minutes or so. Towards the end of the process it will send an su command to the phone you need to allow it as it's verifying root access and that's it. After it was done booting back up I booted into bootloader to confirm knox 0x0.

This is for anybody who needs to download KToonsez's latest kernel for the S4. I am posting this so that we don't get a bunch of questions all over the forums saying "Can someone tell me where to get KToonsez latest kernel?!?!" Link for Touchwiz: http://ktoonsez.jonathanjsimon.com/sgs4/TW/ Link for AOSP: http://ktoonsez.jonathanjsimon.com/sgs4/AOSP/ Just follow the link and download the one with the newest date. Also, we use the Sprint one in case you didn't know. Enjoy!

Ok, with the help of holmesm among others, I found a way to fix it. The latest update butchered this ability, being 4.4.2 (NAE). "My Files" app will work for normal stuff, like pics, videos, and the like. HOWEVER, if you want to move something that is normally READ only, you would need a root explorer app. So instead of using 2 apps to accomplish what 1 normally does, I present to you, how to move files from internal memory to external memory - even with RE. DIY: 1. Navigate to: /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml 2. Scroll down till you see: 3. Add the highlighted line in the above shot! DONE! NOW - if you don't wanna add that yourself, simply replace your "platform.xml" with this one: platform.xml Make sure to change permissions to: rw-r--r-- Reboot!

    USCC S4 Root Help

Hey there newbies. I was sent here by na7q junior. I have some news that's not really news, but I'm just basically telling you guys to get you to stop spreading the false information you are. The BOOTLOADERS are NOT locked. Samsung locked NOTHING down. You can root easily because NOTHING is locked down. The errors some of you received can be caused by many different things. Since this is the first 4.3 update from Samsung it's likely to have some bugs and this is what you are experiencing with your FC's. So everyone, HUSH. Because no bootloaders are locked. The phone is just as unlocked as the first day it was available. Oh and if you're having issues on AOSP because of this then just wait a little while for the devs to push in the NEW updates from 4.3 which would should fix any issues.

This guide is for GingerBread Stock FB14,for Ice Cream Sandwich FK19 links are at the BOTTOM of the post. So I have helped a few people step by step through gtalk already, and I was told I should really make it into a guide so I’m gonna attempt to do so if I leave something out or you have any questions please don't be scared to ask I help noobs, I wont get pissed if you don't understand, I’ll work it through with you. Now here we go! To start off we need to download the appropriate drivers and files required to root your device. Drivers: HERE Mirror: HERE Root and download mode placer: HERE Mirror: HERE Stock kernel: HERE Mirror: HERE Odin 1.85: HERE Mirror: HERE Sickin's cwm Kernel: HERE Mirror: HERE Modified FlashzImage(optional): HERE Mirror: HERE Place all these files in a folder called SGS2 for simplicity (extract any zip files) 1st Step) Install the drivers you downloaded above be patient it may take some time. 2nd Step) On your phone, select USB Debugging and Unknown Sources from the Settings menu. (unknown sources located in the application tab in settings at the very top and usb debugging located in the application tab in settings in under development). Plug your phone into your computer with the USB Cable that came with it. Run the e4auto-sfx.exe (aka Root and download mode placer) Press E then Enter. Then press H then Enter on your keyboard then press any button to continue. Your phone will now reboot into download mode. (green android guy that with a downloading bar) 3rd Step) Open up Odin and click the pda tab and search and open FB14_CWM_Sickin.tar Now unplug your phone and then plug it back in again. There should now be a yellow box in Odin that reads COM then some number. This means your phone is connected and recognized by Odin. Press start and after is reads pass under the COM box it will reboot your phone with a yellow triangle. 4th Step) Run the e4auto-sfx.exe again. Plug your phone in and then press A then any button to continue wait till it finishes and reboots.( it will still have triangle) 5th Step) Run the e4auto-sfx.exe for the third and final time. With your phone plugged in press E then Enter. Then press H then Enter on your keyboard then any button to continue. Your phone will reboot into download mode again. 6th Step) [Final] Run the SCH-R760.FB14_KERNEL-OneClick.exe file Unplug your phone and plug it back in to get it to recognize it. Press start and wait till it reboots. Now you will have a rooted SGS2 with no triangle! 7th Step) [OPTIONAL] Run the installer.bat from the FlashzImage folder and wait it will reboot now you will have CWM (clockworkmod). It's a good idea to back up your phone at this point (instructions follow). With your phone off hold Vol+ and power till the SGS2 logo is visable on the screen. It will then boot into clockworkmod now to make a backup navigate down to the backup and restore tab in clockwork (volume rockers navigates up and down home button selects highlighted object power button go back a page) and select it then select which type of backup you want to make. There are two selcetions backup to sd card and backup to internal storage (i recommend internal storage) after it finishes go back all the way to the main page and select reboot. You can also install custom roms with clockworkmod just load them onto the sd card or internal storage and install using instructions on a given rom's thread (be careful what you install some things are experimental and most are in alpha or beta!) Happy Hacking! I am not responsible for damage, misuse, or any other unforeseen consequences. Thanks Rivethead for the proofread Credit: Sickin for his kernel Sfhub for the e4gauto and stock kernel Anyone else I left out tell me and ill put your name here. In case you cannot download the files for any reason I added mirrors next to them for you to use. FK19 Root app (its pretty easy thanks Chainfire!) CLICK HERE! For FL26...Allenme has a cool post HERE

ODIN is for flashing factory images or recovery packages to a stock device. Typically you'll only use this a few times during the initial setup of your device unless you screw something up or need to go back to stock for insurance or return reasons. Dalvik cache needs to be wiped on any device after you modify an apk/jar so that it can refresh it's resources. This can be done separate from everything else, so you can retain your app and other data while still formatting the device properly for a deodexed system. My roms do all the work for you, as I really hate when people can't follow directions, so I remove as many steps (cache, dalvik, system wipes, rebooting) as I can to limit the amount of failure I have to deal with. I'm uncertain why other developers haven't started taking the time to implement these steps into their edify scripts, but that's just me. All you need to do with my stuff is download it, stick on your sdcard, flash and go. So easy, even a cave man can do it.

    [ROM][TW] AS-ICSv6 10-13-12 Final

These instructions aren't negotiable: 1. Odin to stock LG1. 2. Do not root. 3. Upgrade via OTA or ODIN to LI4. 4. Acquire cwm however you'd like. 5. The flash file will delete the necessary files and do a sufficient data clear, so do not wipe anything. 6. Flash http://www.wildthingsgrow.com/olvis/rwdump/ROM/ASICS-v6.zipASICS-v6.zip 7. The phone will reboot on its own. The flash package will flash cwm 6.0.1.4 touch as well as imoseyon's lean tw kernel aka AK47 v1.0. You will be rooted with busybox and init.d support. Use light manager to customize led notifications. Use Awesome Beats to adjust eq. Use setcpu or some equivalent to adjust kernel voltage and clock speeds. Boot animation can be customized by replacing /system/media/bootanimation.zip with your boot anim of choice. In order to properly use google wallet, do not open the app period from the time you flash to LI4 until you've set up your Google account on AS-ICS. Before using the wallet app on AS-ICS, goto Superuser and select the 'temp unroot' feature. After you've done this, open the app and allow it to update via the market. Set up your accounts on the newly updated app as needed. Once you're completely done setting up the app and your cards, you can go back to Superuser and unselect temp unroot to reacquire root. There will be no other support from me than these notes and instructions. Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk 2

~Warning - Unpleasant Truths Ahead~ and a few blatant lies for character and rich aroma Well, I suppose the best way to start this off is by stating that I'm an irritable, impatient person. In general, outside of my laughable contributions to the development world, (see: jokes) I'm still just as irritable and overly expectant of my fellow human being. Call it a character flaw, call it a short-coming, whatever floats your boat. I like to think of it as general accountability. As living things, every instance of our existence is an instance of accountability for the actions we partake. It's not something that can be shirked, or side-stepped, or danced around. Cause and effect, right? For everything we do, there is an equal and opposite effect that we must answer for, regardless of intention. It's just one of those things. So, that being said, I hold myself to myself to an extremely rigid standard of accountability. I'm forthright, because it's in ones best interest to always bear at the forefront of their person what they stand for and who they are. It's not up to the one to interpret how the many perceive them, but simply to be, as best they can, who they are. There are always going to be times when being oneself does not agree with another equally important and self-driven intent. How these times are handled define us as individuals. I tend to handle things aggressively and insultingly, because of my own personal, bigoted distaste for my fellow man (sorry folks - there's no fixing that one). People (humans as an ambiguous glob), to me, are an unpleasant bunch on their best day, and suicidally depressing when they really put their minds to it. Laziness, gluttony, dependence, self-entitlement, deceit, duplicity. I could go on for days, but I'm fairly certain you get the picture. I like animals and machines, because neither of them are capable of the aforementioned character flaws that define us fine folk. This is not to say that I hate anyone, or anything. More like, hold in lower regard. I don't really think about it anymore - it's almost a reaction. I'm 29, and I'm fairly certain that most of the world is nuts, and I'm the chief quack. So I find things to fill my time that take me away from the worries and chains of modern society, namely have pets and play with android roms. So, in both regards, I pour a great deal of my time and my attention into the growth and development of the things I love. I nurture my pets and I baby my work - all of it, my job, my other projects, all my interest - regardless of it's perceived triviality by other people. I protect the things I love, and by my on nature I'm aggressive and unafraid to lash at those that threaten, insult, belittle, endanger or make less the things I care about. I will tolerate no less that my own dedication from anyone that feels the need to criticize, mock or hold in lower regard my work. If you fail to put forth even the slightest amount of effort in regards to anything I've put so much effort into, I'm gonna be mean. Really mean. Cause I've got alot of mean in me just rearing to get out. All this being said, I don't want people to be afraid to ask questions and learn and be apart of what I put so much of my time into. I'm not going to bite your head off for asking a silly question or getting off topic or even making negative comments about my work. I just ask that before you ask a silly question, check the last 5 pages, those are typically the most relevant. if you have something negative to say, make a suggestion, or provide lots of feedback and support your displeasure. Otherwise you're just being a **** and that's not gonna be tolerated by me. I don't personally care about moderation, but I try to be civil. I love to attack people that abuse their status and privilege. If nothing, I'm fair. Not very patient, but logical to a fault. And please for the love of god feel free to get off topic in a silly and positive way as often as possible on my threads, because there's nothing better than a bunch of bullpoop to make the day pass with a smile. I have a sense of humor for days, and I can take a punch, but just remember that I have a real mean kick. If you get off topic and are being critical or negative, I'll probably be rude. Sorry, it's just the way I am. So, congratulations, you made it to the end! To everyone that skipped from the beginning, you cheated, and we have a special place in hell just for you. So, as a final reminder to anyone that's dumb enough to hold this site accountable for the fact that I hang out here: MY ACTIONS/POSTS/ROMS/RANTS ARE IN NO WAY ASSOCIATED OR REFLECTIVE OF TEAM USC. I just like it here and I'm gonna continue to hang around until I get run off of feed up with stupid people. There are lots of people here who's support I will never forget and I stay here for them as well. The people who's feedback have helped me to make the best of what I'm capable. Thanks, guys :-) Now, put on your big kid pants and come play.

So I just wanted to say a couple things: Right now, AICS is what we have, and I must say never owning a TouchWiz device before, I like it, shoot me. I come from the HTC Incredible, Galaxy Nexus, now this. JP works his butt off, and knows his stuff! We actually talked on the PHONE (I know right?!), and he's got an accent, he likes the f word, but more importantly he is really dedicated and knows what he's doing. Like JP, I do what I do for fun. I have no programming background, just ask questions, Google Google Google, play around and see what I can do. I've learned a lot, and have met some awesome people that I talk to on a daily basis from all over the US. I've frequented XDA, and then Rootzwiki, but when I got this phone Rootz/XDA had no immediate help or assistance for our variant of the SGS3. So I found this place. I know some of you have seen my guides, and those are from experience. I've created those so that others who want to "know how things work" to have something to start with, and I encourage anyone who wants to learn, do it. Sure, it takes a lot of time to learn, test, test more, fail, test more...but it is fun as it is frustrating. Trust me, I work in IT and love to golf, two VERY frustrating things! I don't dedicate all of my time to Android stuff, but I always have wanted to know "how does this work, and can I make it do that for my device?". I've tried my hand at theming, have worked with the dreaded .9.png files, but I can't draw for crap. I look forward to submitting "tweaks" to JP's AICS USCC ROM to make it customized, and incorporate some of the things that CM10 or AOKP have. Having a kernel from Imoseyon is HUGE, since he doesn't have this device on USCC but he made the kernel anyways (I'm pretty sure that's the case, JP?). I plan on helping out JP when I can, and learn along the way...trust me if you've ever tried understanding .smali code you'll know what I'm talking about here! I think once we get the ROM menu going, clock on/off toggling and AM/PM toggling will live there, CRT Off animation toggle maybe too (I've failed miserably at that btw!), and I'd like to learn how to set up checkboxes or something to select which toggles you want in the pulldown and be able to select the order you want them. I'm sure JP has excellent ideas, and I can't wait to see how far this ROM can go as far as incorporating various customizations. JP is doing the best he can given he's really the only ROM in town, so let's tweak the f-ck outta this thing! I'm out, time for some Battlefield 3!

Revamping the thread! The apps provided here are work that I have done 100% in my spare time. It is something I enjoy tinkering with, and have learned a lot about theming! I am more than happy to share my knowledge or lend a hand with any new themers out there wanting to play around. It's time consuming, but PM me directly and I will help to the best of my ability! Team Black Out, b_boyTM, Art Vandalay, djdarkknight96, and dafoxs all have been a great, great help with my persistent questions. Really nice guys, and all are very good with what they do! I'm just happy to be mentioned as part of Team Black Out, even though I haven't started officially working with them yet. These apps have been tested on my Galaxy S3. I have a new Nexus 7, but I am currently just running rooted/stock 4.3, and will not be testing on that device just yet. A general rule of thumb: If the device uses drawable-xhdpi resources (like the S3), then they should be themed, assuming I didn't miss something. Other devices that use drawable-hdpi or mdpi may or may not (usually hdpi is from me unless otherwise stated). The reason drawable-mdpi is mainly unsupported by me is due to not having a device to test it on. Any zip that is attached to this post is a flashable zip. Any apk file is installable as any other apk file, just open a file browser, and touch the apk file to install it. NOTES FOR PLAY STORE: The zip is a flashable zip. The reason it is a flashable zip is this does not install like other apks. I recommend uninstalling Play Store using Titanium Backup, OR you can also browse using a file explorer to /system/app and delete the Phonesky.apk file. After doing one of those two methods, boot the phone into recovery, and flash the zip as you would any other. Restart phone. IT HAS TO BE IN /system/app, as it won't install if you just try touching the apk and selecting "Install". NOTE FOR GOOGLE KEEP: This is a flashable zip. It will be flashed to /system/app. Before flashing, please uninstall Google Keep from your phone (which for reference, is in /data/app, but uninstall it normally, not just deleting the apk from /data/app, you'll have issues!). Boot to recovery, and flash the Black_Keep.zip. Reboot, and you should be all set. NOTE FOR HANGOUTS: Uninstall Hangouts.apk from /system/app first, and reboot your phone into recovery. Flash the Black_Hangouts.zip via recovery. A few notes/warnings: Uninstall the current versions of these apps FIRST! If it is in /system/app, you'll have to delete it from that location. NOTE: Anytime you flash a gapps package over your current ROM, it'll re-install those apks and you will have to delete them to get the blacked out app back. Remember to reboot your phone too. Notes for Google Search starting 11/5/2013, PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE FLASHING!: Right now this flashable zip contains the apk for Google Search, named Velvet.apk, AND the Google Home launcher called GoogleHome.apk. This launcher apk is nothing but a pointer which redirects to the Google Search app. They are both tied together, and yes it is a launcher. If you do not like it, uninstall it from /system/app. It'll be called Launcher, blue circle icon with the Home image inside. Before flashing this zip, UNINSTALL any previous Google Search app you may have installed to /system/app or elsewhere. It could be called any of the following: QuickSearchBox.apk, GoogleSearch.apk, Velvet.apk. If you installed a previous Search apk using normal installation methods, you may be able to uninstall it from Settings - Apps. Reboot to recovery, and flash the new Blacked Out Search zip file. As of right now, this is working ONLY on xhdpi devices (which is the S3). All other device types (hdpi, xxhdpi) will be coming later. There are many images to edit, especially now since xxhdpi is now included (which is S4 folks). I will work on this when I have time to, and update accordingly. I have an N7 which I will use to test hdpi, but I don't have an xxhdpi device so that may be tricky. Everything currently works, voice search, reminders, cards...if you feel I missed something or something doesn't seem/look correct, please post a screenshot so I can address it. I can only see the cards that Google provides me, so if something is wrong I'll do my best to fix it. The flashable zip for 4.4 (Kit Kat, or KK) Google Search is labeled with a KK in the filename below. It IS compatible with other Android versions, and works just fine in other launchers. I've tested it in Nova Prime. Download the Black_Google_Search_KK.zip AND com.google.android.gms-1.apk files. Install the apk as you would any other apk file to update Google Play Services, then boot into recovery to flash the zip file. OK, hears a good story for y'all.....I had done about 5 calls to check the exchange probability for my daughters S3.....no luck.....called the local store on Tuesday and they said just come in, she had just gotten the email about all this and said we will talk about getting you an S4. My daughter just now walked in and told them she was getting dropped calls left and right and she heard about this exchange program......(she only knew what I told her from this forum) the guy said I am sorry but we aren't doing that and the best I can do is send your S3 out to get fixed. She said, No I am just going to another store because it seems that every store is getting different information on how to handle this and then she walked out of the store. She got into her car and called me to tell me what happened and while she was talking to me the guy came out to her car and knocked on her window and said, you need to come back in, I am so very sorry I was on vacation for 2 weeks and apparently there has been alot happening that I was not aware of. She went back in and he said he was going to look up her phone on a list, which he could not find, she proceeded to tell him alot of what I passed on to her about what I have read here and he even commented by saying, wow, you really know whats going on. Since he could not find a list he said oh well I'm just going to GIVE you an S4 but you will need to give me your S3, she said, no I can't do that, I need alot of information off of it yet. Excited/Angry?

Think of it like the Matrix: Jailbreaking is comparable to what Morpheus could do. He could bend the rules of the system to overcome certain restrictions, but was still bound to its rules. Rooting is what Neo could do. Not only could he bend the rules, he could completely break them (my God that was a slick analogy) Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

Okay, attached to this post is a PDF of the information you'll need. Is it the end all be all? No, I'm sure I'll update it over time. I'm not going to just copy/paste it here, as it's 4 pages long. So, just a quick explanation of it. This will generally outline how to install Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit. Now, by general I mean it provides a link to Ubuntu's site to explain (with pictures) how to install it. Remember, I'm not there to guide everyone through every possible OS installation. You have to have some basic knowledge of computers to understand this, and some more advanced knowledge if you plan on dual booting (say Windows with Linux). If you don't have any idea what you're doing/don't ask/don't READ, the risks you run are great, and the worst is deleting your Windows partitions (which means you lose EVERYTHING!). I'm not responsible for what you do to your system, you are. Not all instructions are "easy" to understand, and these will be the same. This is noted in the PDF, but I feel that I should mention it here as well: If you are running Windows already and have the ENTIRE hard drive (HDD) partitioned for the OS, this guide won't help you! What you'll be getting into is advanced partitioning and repartitioning, and Windows doesn't like it, especially if Windows system files are living there. This guide is provided with the assumption that: You're going to rebuild Windows where you can tell it how big of a partition it gets. It won't explain the advanced repartitioning that you would otherwise have to do. I've added more to my personal guide, and expanded it to this attached PDF. I have built (and rebuilt) Ubuntu 12.04 x64 at least 3 times, and just built/set up Linux Mint 14 x64 yesterday (built off of Ubuntu). I am providing this guide so that anyone who is curious into knowing how to get started with a build environment, well here's what it takes. It may seem like a lot, and it is, but it really isn't that tough at all. If you have any questions, please post here, it'll help others out who may want to or run into the same thing. If you feel something should be added, is missing, or needs editing, also please let me know. Especially if you are unsure of something, don't get part of the way through to figure out something is wrong. Ask first, it'll save a headache later. Thank you! EDIT: Yes, there probably are many ways to get from point A to point B. The documented way is the way that I've used for the last few months now, and it has ALWAYS worked for me, and my setup. If it isn't broke, no need to fix it. UPDATED PDF 2.1.2013: Reflect Grumpy Bastid pointing out the incomplete local_manifest.xml in documentation, updated. UPDATED PDF 2.26.2013: Reflect two possible commands needed to prevent repo from stopping sync with no error or completing; added potential missing lib command. UPDATED PDF 2.27.2013: Updated commands for libxml2-utils and libxml2-dev for correct syntax. Added a couple of other commands for adding required libraries. UPDATED PDF 3.1.2013: Updated syntax for commands, thanks puk3n! Setting up Linux Build Environment.pdf

    JB stock ROM port

I tried to show him some support on Rootzwiki. Hopefully he doesn't get too discouraged from the people that just want to complain. Everyone has to start somewhere, and no one else is getting 4.2 working, so he is doing fine. These people always cause our developers to leave. And the support is much appriciated. Don't want anyone getting the wrong idea, the feedback left in the thread on rw was appriciated greatly. It was the pm from the same d-bag that came here and blasted me as well that set me off. Well I may not have a rep on rootzwiki(mainly because i hate it) I have a pretty good reputaton on xda which has no forum for the us cellular version of this phone. I have at least one thing I've created for all us and canadian variants of the s3 including a fully functional jb port for cspire. I chose to switch to a verizon base because of how much closer it is to the usc variant. As i said on rw im tryin to do this and deal with the flu at the same time so its not incredibly easy. If you know how to follow directions and you make a nandroid I assure you this will not cause "undesirable operations" to your phone. Any idiot knows that all us variants are identical as far as hardware goes. Hopefully I can get this up and running cuz i haven't failed to notice the lack of support for this phone. Heres the latest version of the port Thanks all for the helpful comments
