  1. Firewall to block network access for apps

Have you looked into Tasker? Might be root only Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  2. I have the same issue on my 6p and xl2, need to force switch off t mobile often. It's fine with me, I still have better coverage and reliability even with some manual tweaking There are plenty of leaks on the xl3, I'd say they're reliable. Personally I just picked up the pixel xl2 a few weeks ago because the 3 didn't look shockingly better, and I got $250 off on project fi. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  3. Used phone choices up to $200?

For what it's worth my wife had 3 moto g phones, they each lasted a year before they had major issues that I couldn't fix (internal battery failure, constant camera crashes, 30 minute boot time). I worn touch them again, but I'll sell you one for cheap if you're interested! I recently purchases a new old stock pixel for my wife, they're selling for $340 on Amazon.... 2 years old but still a great piece of hardware. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  4. I switched to Verizon: Explanation

I go up to Ashland WI a lot (and surrounding areas) on project Fi. Yeah, it's 2G roaming on ATT when you leave the small native coverage. To be honest I don't know a single carrier that's good up north though. My wife is on AT&T and between our 4 networks combined we still go without good data coverage at times. Maybe I should carry a Verizon phone too LOL Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  5. I was a long time Samsung user before my Nexus 6P, I will never go back. Imagine a world where you only have one app to do each function (instead of 3 similar apps) I think the hardware on my S5 was more durable, and swapping the back button took a month to re learn, but you'll love it Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  6. USCC Blocks 1.1.1.1

Interesting... I never bothered since android needs root to do so. How about quad 9 DNS? Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  7. Moto X4 compatible with U.S. Cellular

As a former uscc subscriber that now uses FI, I haven't looked back. It's the same great uscc service with actual roaming. There are rare times when it gets stuck on a bad tower, but I use the fi switch app to move it. Not a huge deal to me Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  8. I switched to Verizon: Explanation

I agree, it's got the best coverage in most areas because it combines 3 services. The only time it'set me down is where all 3 are roaming and only a specific single carrier works My bills are about $30 Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  9. Guide to install custom ROM(s)

Not sure which file you have linked there slim, but lineage has their own SU add on on their website, I would recommend that instead Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  10. Roaming issue

If it is not a model US992 it will not work reliably or at all. No software will change the hardware From a quick Google search there is only one model that starts with US Have you tried factory resetting the phone? Frankly if it's used I would blow away the firmware and flash an official rom for security anyway Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  11. Question about Google Fi

Totally agree with above. I'm on FI, use the fi switch app when it gets a stuck on sprint, and love the service. At least in Wisconsin, it's like being on uscc but cheaper and actually has roaming. My bills are in the 30 dollars range as well Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  12. You'll likely get better help over at XDA-Developers as well. The user base here is not what it used to be, and that's an older phone too Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  13. Moto X4 compatible with U.S. Cellular

I use this as well, with a toggle in the notification shade to quickly switch when one network isn't responding well. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  14. Phone to buy for ~$150-$200?

doo-doo my bad, I think I even commented in that thread! Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  15. Phone to buy for ~$150-$200?

http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/11/21/deal-alert-moto-g5-plus-32gb-169-99-60-off-amazon/ Can't beat that deal! Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  16. Phone to buy for ~$150-$200?

Used Nexus 6P is under $200, new battery (you'll likely need it at some point) is $15. Great camera, great phone, works on USCC Moto G4 is nice too, but I couldn't find a reliable battery replacement when my wife's failed My S5 is still going strong as a wifi toy, good luck finding something that bullet proof in your price range unfortunately Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk Edit: should mention there is a chance of bootloops with the 6P... It's a risk I was willing to take
  17. T-Mobile Coming to Iowa

I've never had luck on either carrier in Crivitz (well, a few miles north of it anyway). Can't remember what speeds were in town. Voice has gotten, better speeds have not Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  18. Hardware Problems Worth Fixing?

Have you considered the Nexus 6P? You can get one on swappa for $200,and if the battery fails it sounds like you have the technical ability to replace it. It's a great phone, and I'm pretty sure you'll have no issue activating it Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  19. T-Mobile Coming to Iowa

I go up to Ashland and iron river often, and I'm much happier on FI than I was on USCC, for what it's worth. I agree the 2G speeds suck, but I'm connected more often than I used to be and can actually make calls and send texts But if you're liking unlimited, FI probably isn't for you anyway Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  20. Received SMS messages split up

I can force my texting app to not convert to mms. When I was on uscc I had issues with mms when roaming or bad signal, and many older roms had problems with mms as well. I agree though, help the person sending to you change their phone settings, it's the only way Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  21. Moto X4 compatible with U.S. Cellular

Stanley has a great summary of project Fi. It is a cellular carrier, and it's limited to Google phones and the moto x4 right now. If you use one of those phones.. I think it's a much better service. For my data usage it's cheaper, has features like visual voicemail and wifi calling, and the other 2 networks fill in the dead/roaming areas well But it is very limited in which phones you can use! Keep that in mind if you ever want to switch phones to a non pixel or nexus phone Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  22. Good equivalent of the Moto X Pure

Sorry guys, my wife is on big blue (ATT), I have no idea if it works with uscc (and I no longer have a uscc active sim to try. According to their website the g4+ is the last phone they made that was carrier unlock and worked on uscc Edit, looking on moto forums they confirm the g5+ will not work on uscc, even though bands match up Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  23. Good equivalent of the Moto X Pure

I would also take into account security updates, I doubt your pure will get a fix for the latest wifi and Bluetooth vulnerabilities, while a newer phone will. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  24. Don't buy it through Verizon as it will have a locked bootloader and some bloat. If recent news with the nexus 6P return fiasco is any indication, get it through Google store or project fi to ensure the best support if you have any issues in the future. Project fi is offering with a Google Home mini for the same price as the Google store for what it's worth. I'm also a convert from USCC to project fi, I totally recommend it! I'm on the same USCC network I always was, but now I have actual roaming, and it's cheaper. I don't see a reason to stick with uscc other than phone selection and maybe if you use a lot of data. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  25. Good equivalent of the Moto X Pure

My wife had a moto g4+ until the battery failed, so I got her the g5+ as a replacement. She loves it! It's snappy, battery life is terrific, and the fit and finish is pretty good. I think the camera on her g4 took better pictures, but it's passable. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
