  1. Really? That's interesting but I imagine most carriers will charge some sort of fee if the SIM card is used. I don't know if VZN is using the SIM slot or the eSIM? My guess is they are using the SIM slot.
  2. OK - thanks for clearing that up for me. I had a feeling this was the case but didn't know how to best phrase the question without proving myself a bigger dumbass than I've already shown myself to be. [emoji16] Hopefully a root method will come along. I think rooting might open some of the best options for saving battery. It sure did with this old S4 I'm using. I suspect I'll get a hair one night this week and order one from Google. I'd like to first decide if I'm going to jump to fi because I'd like to order the phone and set up my account at the same time IF I decide to move my personal phone to Google. It's a lot of money for me but it seems that all the new phones are costing $500.00+ to purchase so I guess it will suck now or suck even more later when my current phone is totally inoperable. 3. I'm still confused regarding the locked pixel 2. I'm getting the feeling that a pixel 2, whether a Verizon or Google fi version, cannot be moved to another carrier once activated on either one? So this phone is a single carrier phone? Yet I see one post here that intimates this is not the case? (#6) Galaxy S4, Slimkat If I wasn't married I'd quit fishing
  4. I can't see how the companies selling these phones can get away with locking the bootloader. If I buy a phone outright I'm buying a piece of hardware and I should be able to use it in any sys em that supports it. If I buy a Verizon pixel 2 and then decide to change carriers the phone won't be able to move with me? Galaxy S4, Slimkat If I wasn't married I'd quit fishing
  5. My galaxy s4 has about soiled the Sealy. It's been randomly powering off for months and I've been dreading the idea of having to screw with getting a new phone. I've put it off this long because I wanted to wait for the new pixel. Now that it's out I am pretty sure I'll be buying one although I may also consider the older pixel. Seems like the old pixel is only $100.00 less than the 2 which isn't enough of a savings IMOPO. I'm pretty much going with this phone so that I can move to the FI project at some point. I'm OK with USC for now but I'm down to 3 phones on my plan and none in contract. Soon I'll be down to just two phones and this is when I'll look more closely at the fi deal. Whats the best place to buy (not over time/finance) this phone? I'm also curious if they all come with preloaded bloat? Seems like those purchased through cellular providers have a large amount of bloat so I'm wondering if they all do? Thanks for any advice. Galaxy S4, Slimkat If I wasn't married I'd quit fishing
  6. Well I ended up having to go to a corporate store and fill out a transfer of ownership form etc etc. They gave her back her old number, activated the first IPhone and took back/gave credit for the second iPhone. Pain in the Richard but it's done now and I'm not obligated to stay with us cellular. I am think about Google fi but will wait until the new pixel arrives. Thanks Galaxy S4, Slimkat If I wasn't married I'd quit fishing
  7. My daughter is (was) on my plan and her phone was eligible for an upgrade. Her Iphone was broken (screen) so she went into a store and got a new phone. I was her the next day and she mentioned this to me. I told her she shouldn't have done this because I don't want to commit to USCellular for another two years.I told her that she needed to get on her own plan. She was going out of state the next day and was going to take care of this when she got back. The next day I called to make sure she would be OK getting her own plan and transferring her phone to the new plan. The agent I spoke with said it would be no problem and that the obligation/installments for the new phone would simply go with the new plan that she chose. Today I get a call from her and it came from a new number. I never answer calls from unrecognized numbers but today I did and it was her. She told me she got a new number AND a new phone and that the agent told her to give her other phone to me because I had one or more lines available for upgrade. I told her this was total BS and that she needed to go back and have them port her number to her plan AND use the phone that she was told to give to me as her phone and to give the new phone back. She later called me saying that we both have to go to the store in order to handle this. This seems like a crap to me. It sounded like someone wanted to make a sale and stick me with some phone that I have no desire to have. Is there anything that I can do to get this settled without having to go into a store with my daughter? She doesn't have much time for such things because she works a lot of hours and I have no desire to go into town. It's about an hour drive with traffic and who knows how many hoops I'll have to jump through AND how long the line to wait will be. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

  10. My S4 is flaky and I don't wish to get something high $. I'm seriously considering Google fi but I want to wait until the new pixel comes out so I want an S4 for now. Anyone selling here? Galaxy S4, Slimkat If I wasn't married I'd quit fishing
  11. Thanks but I highly doubt this is a battery issue on mine. Still possible I suppose. So far today it has not shut off so?? Galaxy S4, Slimkat If I wasn't married I'd quit fishing
  12. My good old S4 is really giving me a problem lately. Starting yesterday it will just shut off. Sometimes when I power it back up it will display the initial screen and die again. Most times it will reboot OK but will shut off again in a few seconds to a minute. Other times it will stay on for a few hours. I thought it may be a prob;em with the power button and this still may be the case but I am not certain it is related. I was going to try and disable the power button by putting a # in front of 116 in the key layout file. I am wondering if this is a decent way to determine if it is or is not the power button giving the problem. I am also wondering if there is a way to take a snapshot of what is happening as it powers down? I do not wish to change phones right now so, if the phone turns out to be garbage, I will likely look for another of the same phone. Any suggestions on where to get a "new" S4 would be appreciated. Thanks

  14. My wife needs a new iphone so what's the best way to buy one? I don't know if it is cheaper to get one from us cellular or another retailer? Thanks Galaxy S4, Slimkat If I wasn't married I'd quit fishing
