With unlimited everything.I called them to check on swaping out handsets and he said it would not be a problem so long as i got the carrier to unlock the phone. USC won't give it up. I've gotten as far as the network lock part of the "hidden menu" & dont know what to do now. Help please!

  7. 700mhz Interoperability

Interesting article on fiercewireless about LTE band 12 interoperability. This is great news for U.S. Cellular and other LTE band 12 frequency owners like C Spire. AT&T does an about-face, will support 700 MHz interoperability
  8. I came across this doing some reading today, and thought I would pass it on. This was in reference to users not being able to "hold" 4G. I do not actually live in a 4G area so I cannot test "results", but it may help others. Using the dialer enter *#*#4636#*#* As I understand, BE VERY CAREFUL IN THIS AREA OF YOUR PHONE - YOU COULD BREAK IT!!!!!! - My phone on stock was set to "LTE/CDMA/EvDO", but the ROM I was running was set to GSM/CDMA auto (PRL). Changing this may help the connectivity. Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2346623
  9. 4G Expansion Info?

Has there been any news released on further 4g expansion? I was in a by the end of 2012 market, but it has become an end of 2013 market. Has there been a single market switched on in 2013?
  10. So my parents are still stuck on 1.5 mpbs/784 dsl out in the sticks. So my father came in and started a new BPE contract got a motorola M and the $60 unlimited data+tether packaging. At my parents house it seems as though the M averages an 85dmb to 90 dbm indoor 3G signal reception. I'm trying to locate the best outdoor antenna/booster for their use. 4G seems very much direction/signal strength dependent. There is a tower that is nearly line of sigh with their home with a slight hill in the way. If an antenna was mounted on the roof it would have direct line of sight. Here where I live I have a 101 dbm 4G signal and am able to average 5.81 to 7mbps by 2.27-4 mbps using my S3 and no booster or antenna. Anyone familiar with Wilson electronics ? Can anyone suggest what products I should be purchasing ? Price doesn't really matter I primarily just want the absolute highest gain. Also I have read about a Mofi router for the wireless signals. Does anyone have any good models ? Thanks.
  11. Samsung Galaxy Metrix 4G Now Available

The Galaxy Metrix (basically a rebranded Stratosphere on Verizon) is now available. It features a 4.0 inch touchscreen, 5MP rear-facing camera, 1.3MP front-facing camera, and 4G LTE. It's available for $129.99 after $100 MIR.
  12. Hello everyone, Has anyone been able to use Tasker or other apps to turn off 4G while connected to wifi? 3G gets a better signal and it would be nice to switch when im at home connected to wifi and when disconnected, it can switch back to 4G. I used Tasker to toggle mobile data completely, but I dont want to turn it off altogether because then MMS will not go through. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!!
  13. Hello, I work at a walmart connection center and we recently started carrying US Cellular at my store. According to the rep for our store, if someone is on an original belief plan (where the data is bundled for all lines) and they wanted to upgrade to a 4g phone, they have to change their plan. The contracts that we've done so far show the 5gig of data being removed and changing to a 2gig option, among other changes. It was my understanding that US Cellular would not force someone to change their current plan when upgrading their phone, which is why I was surprised by this information. I was wondering if anyone had upgraded through walmart recently and didn't have their plan change? Also, can anyone tell me if you upgrade through a non-walmart location, will they force you to change your plan? Thanks for the help!
  14. I've started a journey away from US Cellular's CDMA & 3G service and replaced it with 4G data-only and thought I'd share my experience so far. I'm still using my US Cellular Samsung GS3, although I no longer have cell service or mobile data provided by USCC. I'm getting my wireless data thru a device purchased from a new startup called FreedomPop. Here's my devices: - Samsung Galaxy S3 (SCH-R530U/d2usc), rooted and running CM10, baseband LF9 - FreedomPop Photon 4G mobile WiFi hotspot First, why am I doing this? It's mostly price and broadband speed considerations. I'm located in the Chicago area where we only have 3G service available. There's no 4G USCC service here and no offerings on the horizon. Basically with everyone around me using 4G on Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, etc., I'm annoyed with USCC dragging it's feet and going nowhere. Moving to the FreedomPop 4G service costs $18/mo. for 2GB of data (with $1 per 100 MB overage fee) so I'm saving quite a bit. We had 3 devices on a USCC family plan at a total cost of $180/mo., but now we're down to 2 devices at $140/mo. (net savings: $22/mo.) With fewer devices and less usage, I'll probably look to change to a cheaper USCC rate plan in the future (or possibly make the same change on another family device). Google Voice is free so there's no cost for my call minutes or texts. So basically I've upgraded my speed while reducing my monthly cost. My biggest hurdles I figured I had to overcome were: - Is the 4G service coverage area adequate? - Can I reliably send & receive calls & texts using only a data connection? Carrying around a second battery-powered device is a lesser, but still important consideration. I'm about two weeks into this, so how is it going? As far as coverage goes, things are positive. In my work, I don't travel at all so I'm basically in one coverage area all the time. FreedomPop currently uses Clear's 4G Wimax service so wherever Clear has coverage, I have coverage (meaning I can get calls, texts, and data). The Photon hotspot gets a strong signal in my home area (suburban area), at work (downtown Chicago), and just about everywhere in between, indoors and out. FreedomPop will be shifting away from Wimax over to Sprint's 4G LTE service as that comes online (early 2013-ish) so that may change things up a bit. The Photon hotspot gets about 6-7 hours of battery life before I have to plug it in for a recharge. To make & receive calls on a data-only connection, I'm using the Talkatone VOIP app in conjunction with Google Voice. I use wifi obviously to connect to the Photon hotspot. My first step though, was porting my US Cellular number over to Google Voice (which cancelled my service with USCC). I decided to port my number so that people could continue calling me on the same cell number I've had for over 10 years. I already had a Google Voice account with a Google-provided number so porting my cell number in gave me 2 phone numbers on my Google Voice account. It took about a day for calling to be activated on my new Google Voice number, and it took about 3 business days for texting to start working on the new Google Voice number. There are several VOIP apps available and I tried a few before settling on Talkatone. GrooveIP and Sipdroid worked, but they had way too much echo for the person at the other end of the line, and no amount of fiddling with settings could get rid of it. Also, I couldn't get my bluetooth headsets to work with these apps. Talkatone worked great from the get-go, including bluetooth. The only issue I have sometimes is a slight delay (like you get on international calls) but it's pretty minor. VOIP calls use about 1MB per minute, and I typically use no more than 200-300 minutes per month, so data usage is not an issue. One side benefit is that my S3 itself now has better battery life because the radio is turned off (airplane mode): it never has to search for a cell tower signal which is always a battery drain. Again, my biggest concern was: would the combination of 4G data-only coverage and VOIP be reliable enough to get by without having actual cellphone service? Two weeks into this, I have to say so far so good. My work also provides me with a cellphone so I admit, this made it easier to take the plunge. I forward Google Voice to my work cell as a backup, but I haven't had to use that yet. Anyhow, sorry for the long posting but I thought others might be interested.
  15. Second Wave Of 4G!!

I got a call from one of my friends who works at a US Cellular corporate store and he told me that the second wave of 4G should be coming online this Sunday! This information should be pretty solid being as he's good friends with the tower tech, so just figured some of you might be excited like I am!! Also I put this within rumors because as always I don't work there, or have 100% proof, maybe more you guys do?
  16. Just walked outside for a smoke, whipped out my GS3 and 4G was live! i'm in asheville for the record. had to share my speedtest. in order: wifi, 3g, 4g.
