1. I have a bunch of custom ringtones and notification sounds downloaded from several different websites, apps, etc. Some of them are from downloads on previous phones that transferred over on my SD card. In an attempt to "clean up" my phone yesterday, I moved any/all sounds (ringtones, music, audio, notifications, etc.) to my external SD card using "My Files." I then also DELETED any music/audio/ringtone folder on the internal device storage, since I had move the contents to the SD card. I now realize, however, that I can locate ringtones on the SD card and change them (both as a global ringtone and for individual contacts), I am UNABLE to change a ringtone. When I go to SETTINGS>My device>Sound>Default Notification Sound>, it provides a list of "standard" notification tones (i.e., Pure Bell, Temple bell, Whisper, USCC, etc.) However, NONE of them work...I hear no sound when I select them. I think it is because I deleted the notification folder from the storage location on the internal device. Also, I only have a CANCEL and an OK option for default notification sounds - I don't have an option to ADD (and search for a tone on the SD card or otherwise), like I do if I follow SETTINGS>My device>Sound>Ringtones>. That will let me choose "Add," and then I can use Sound picker to access where they are stored on my external SD card. Does anyone know how I can either get the standard notification sounds back, or what the folder name/path was that I deleted, so that I can recreate the folder and put notifications back into it? All I really need is a way to set a default notification sound that works (although i'd like to get custom ones back, and be able to change them for different things, at this point, I just want to have some tone, any tone, to use)! For the record, I have also tried going into a specific contact, selecting "Message Alert" and I run into the same problem - no default tones listed actually "work," and I have no option to add them from the sound picker. Any ideas?
2. }{ello all! I went back to the stock ROM after having no luck with one of Dark_Knight's CM10 ports. It was one of his orignal releases after he rejoined the community. This was before he started promoting the use of allenme's scripts. I LOVED the ROM, but it suffered from a few serious flaws: 1) I could not get a GPS lock even when the phone was sitting flat on a table outdoors. 2) I was never notified of new voicemails 3) Battery life was around 13 hours of non-use with Wifi, Bluetooth, and GPS disabled, and just a few hours with any sort of use. I was wondering what people are using for a current JB rom. I LOVED the features of JB and would be much endebted to anyone who can shed light on the current de-facto standard ROM. Thanks in advance!
3. Hi all, I'm really hoping someone here can help me. I have scoured the internet and forums to try to find a solution, but no luck so far. My SGS3 is not giving me any notification that I've received a text (SMS) message. No notification in the top bar, no sound, no vibration... I have to open up the Messaging app and actually look to see if I've received any messages (ie look for a # by one of my contact's threads). However, this is NOT the case with MMS, or email. If I send myself an MMS via gmail (phone#@mms.uscc.net) I *do* get a notification just fine. Things I've tried after searching various online forums: - Turn off and back on Notifications in Message Settings - Ensured that the Notifications are actually on in the drop down menu - Turned off "Delete old messages" in the Message Settings - Ensured that the volume for notifications was indeed not set to zero - Sending myself countless text messages using US Cellular Web to Text (http://uscellular.zipwhip.com/)to confirm all these things in addition to having others text me. - Rebooting - Power off, remove battery, install battery, power up I have not yet done a factory reset because I'm not sure how to back things up before I do so... Any help someone can offer would be greatly appreciated! TIA!
4. About three days ago I discovered an over the air software update for my Samsung Galaxy S3, and installed it. Since then, I have noticed a new icon in my notification bar - an eye. The assumption is that it has something to do with the "Smart Stay" feature of the GS3 - a feature that I have not yet been able to determine if it works or not. However, I turned off the Smart Stay feature, and the "eyecon" remains on my screen. What's up with this? Can someone provide a definitive answer, because I'm not at all convinced of any of this. Thank you, Ed Payne
5. I was playing around trying to center the clock, and a post I found on XDA had pointed someone to the arrays.xml file in SystemUI.apk. I looked there, and saw the names of the toggles. I played around with the order in which they were shown, and bingo! We can move their order. First, please please please make a nandroid backup. I say this because it will save your butt if something goes wrong, like black wallpaper and no status bar! I've had this happen to me, and reflashed my entire ROM 3x in a row before I learned my lesson! You'll also need to be running AwesomeSauceICS by jp for this to work, as his ROM is de-odexed and these files won't work with anything else! I assume that you have a working Android SDK, Java installed, apktool downloaded, Notepad++, and 7zip. Here's how: Decompile SystemUI.apk Navigate to SystemUI - res - values Open arrays.xml with Notepad++ Under <string-array name="QuickSettingButtonAttribute"> you'll see the toggle names. They will be in-between the
...
tags. Now moving them is simple, copy the line you want to move, say Bluetooth. Copy the ENTIRE line:
Bluetooth
, create a new line underneath the area you would like it to be, then paste the line you copied. Make sure to REMOVE the original line you originally copied, otherwise you'll have duplicate toggles! Make sure you get the indents correct as well. Recompile SystemUI Using 7zip, delete the AndroidManifest.xml from your newly compiled SystemUI.apk. Copy the AndroidManifest.xml and META-INF files from the ORIGINAL base v2 SystemUI.apk file, and put those 2 files into your newly compiled SystemUI.apk. Push it to your phone using adb. Profit. NOTE: If there are toggles listed you do not want, just delete them in the arrays.xml file. I kept only 4, and it works. I don't know how to add other things that are not existing toggles. Maybe at some point we can get this automated so that they can be changed "on the fly" in Settings or something, but I don't know how to do that.
6. Hello, my friend just got an s3 and they hooked their facebook account to the device and it seems like everytime someone updates their status or something her LED notification light starts blinking. Is there anyway to keep the LED light turned on for emails, missed calls, texts, etc... but DISABLE it somehow for only Facebook? I do not use Facebook or this would also drive me nuts, so I feel her pain.... Only option I see is to disable the LED totally. I don't see options to disable it for specific applications, I would think there's got to be some way to do it.
