Gingerbread Froyo question.

Recommended Posts

If my current set up is a rooted Desire, running CWM ver 4, stock 2.2 rom, can I simply upgrade to an Oxygen 2.3 rom? The fuzzy area for me is the gingerbread and froyo. What dictates what make it a froyo or gingerbread? Just major revisions to the rom, or is it hardware?

Thanks

Gingerbread is the name of the software version. You will be fine flashing oxygen 2.3. I was running it on my desire.

Yeah cdrice15 was correct. Froyo is 2.2 and Gingerbread is 2.3

Gingerbread has a new user interface theme, a better keyboard, copy/paste functions, better power management for the battery and applications, a new download manager, a new camera, and other stuff.

So mostly it is changes to the software/ROM that allow better use of the hardware.

If you do a search for the difference between Froyo and Gingerbread in Google or Bing you'll find more of the nitty gritty details if you need them.

The stock ROM you are running right now is Froyo, Oxygen would be Gingerbread (and is an excellent ROM in my opinion!)
