Confirmed by another agent here. Not good IMO. I'm guessing they're losing too much money? Was a pretty great selling point while it lasted....

yeah, people were abusing it. I know I gave them out like candy, so Im to blame also. At least its 4 free batteries and not none.

according to uscc, only 1% of customers used their 4 swaps a month regularly.

This saves thousands of dollars while still catering to the majority of customers.

I think I've used it 3 times in the last 2 years. I appreciate having it but won't be affected by the cutbacks.

Why would someone need to swap out their battery 4 times in one month?

I've been on the same battery for the last 2 years with my desire.

If you really need your phone and no charger is around while your battery is near dead or dying. Personally I have no clue why they would exchange that often. As I have no idea if a used battery will be given to me in tested to be working shape, I would trust the one I already had.

Pretty much why I would only use battery swap as last ditch. No idea how worn out a replacement would be. Thing I love about Android/smartphones in general is that if I have my laptop with me, it's like an extra battery, but for "dumbphones", sometimes you're SOL.

thatoneguy/chuckytee, (not sure if any of you work at corp stores, but...) do you even do any testing on swapped out batteries?

People were abusing it...

in my stores - people would sometimes come in and swap 4 times a day!

U.S. Cellular should have put a hard coded limit on the amount of battery swaps being done, Everyone was told "4 per month" but the system would not prevent a swap after 4....

a lot of associates would just swap them to avoid arguing with customers who would say "the commercial says i can get a battery when ever i want!"

smh.....

No freaking way. People realize you can charge the batteries, correct?

Well,

some of my stores are in "challenging" areas

If they lose/damage their charger, they dont see why they should have to buy another one.

Especially when U.S. Cellular offers Free battery swap.

Since some of these location s are in challenging areas, associates would rather NOT argue with them....

But if U.S. Cellular does not add some sort of Block after 4... i dont see the problem stopping anytime soon.

You should have seen the reaction we got from PrePaid customers when US Cell decided to stop doign swaps for them......

Something to keep in mind, first off US Cellular is the only company to offer anything like this. If you're battery were to go out with any other carrier, you'd basically be told "tough $#it, go buy a battery online" or to "buy a car charger" if your battery was low. Also keep in mind with every single battery swap, the company loses money. Every last one of them. But it's something the company is willing to eat the cost in exchange for providing that unique awesome customer service that only US Cellular offers.

let's keep this on topic.

yes, it cost uscc to do battery swaps, that's the end of it, and it costs a substantial amount, or every carrier would do it.

They're finally making the charger universal, would it be a terrible idea to make the battery in smartphones universal also?

I know its unlikely but that would eliminate another development cost too, while making it easier on end users...

Its an idea.

I think the problem with them using the danger Battery might lie in the revenue companies get from replacement batteries

Just another case of because a few people abused the system, now everyone has to suffer consequences. I personally think the cut was too drastic. I could see going from 4 per month to 1 per month.

I used it a few times, but pretty much just gave up and purchased an extra battery after being told they had no batteries for my Electrify the last 2 times I tried.

I Think part of the blame goes to USC in this situation.

they never set a hard limit and never advertised or explained any limits to customers.

I think I can agree with you on that one. And I think even 6 a year would have been a better idea... But even at only 4 a year, it's still more battery swaps then you will get with any other carrier.
