Ok, so prepare to flog me, but I don't necessarily hate ALL of TouchWiz in the Galaxy S4. Samsung went miles towards remedying some of its key issues (the MMS app, for instance, is no longer horrid to look at) but left the one glaring example of poor design (and the reason I usually root and flash CM10.1) in place - The Notification Drawer. Below you'll find the original Notification Drawer as it appears on the S4. Notice: it's ugly as sin. Next to it are to iterations of what it could have looked like had Samsung made even the slightest effort to make TW uniform. To me, their attempt is just pathetic and lazy.

twstatusbaroriginal.png twstatusbarrevamped.png twstatusbarrevamped2.png

Notice how that ugly green is still there from the days of Android Donut? Or that they combined such an odd dark blue with PURE black? It's hideous. The two mock-ups above borrow from the design elements already found on TW. None, I repeat, NONE of it is origninal content in any way. Samsung already has the hard part done, so why not use the resources they've already put together in the Dialer and MMS apps?

Your guess is as good as mine. Do you like the OEM Notification Bar? Which one of the three would you prefer? Feel free to download the high-res mock ups on your phone to get a feel for what they'd look like in action.

This is NOT a development thread. I do not have the programming knowledge to make this happen. I would, however, be willing to donate my time and efforts to a project aimed at unifying TW without changing its core (polishing it, if you will). PM me if interested. I am a relatively skilled Graphic Designer.

Yes they screwed it up, they screwed everything up when they kept the same color scheme they used for donut devices and the first TouchWiz iterations.

As for your mockup, overall good, much better than stock in the ways of looking nice, but, light colors boo hisssss amoled dark color master race

I literally just loled. I agree, amoled dark color master race ftw... but the lastest iteration of TW goes completely against that. See: Dialer, MMS, Contacts, etc. How bright everything is on TW is the main reason I end up getting rid of it. I'd just like to see a custom ROM where someone refines TW like it should be, so Samsung has no excuses. Changing the Donut Green to ICS blue does NOT count as fixing TW, haha.

If you need assistance with the theming of the status bar/notification area, I'd be happy to help. Obviously I don't own an S4, but I've been theming the poo outta my personal TW ROM and know where Sammy hides color and pngs.

I HATE the fact that they add their own colors under names like TWcolor1 etc, they could be descriptive somewhat so you can maybe tell what the heck it's doing!

Just PM me as I don't check the S4 section that often at all. I'll take some screenies of my system (Contacts, Dialer, Mms) to show what I've done so far.

Mine is exactly like that, but some are missing...

I did the drawable_xhdpi, and that's it.

I haven't had time to mess with the framework - or to finally make my klp concept. Hopefully after my wedding I'll get time.

If it's just a systemui.apk then u can't, if it's a whole rom then yeah, that would be easy as possible, and I wouldn't need to flash a whole rom.

Framework res.apk
Systemui.apk

That's all we really need, which I have the stock ones - just no molded.

Bleemck, I like the light color mock up you did, maybe even make one white and one black with that overall color scheme..

I agree that the 'clear notifications' and 'ongoing' areas have just gotta go.

Updated with a darker mock-up. I would seriously pay someone to make this a reality. I want to stick with stock TW so that I can show it off to customers without having to explain why "mine is different" and the ONLY part of TW I absolutely HATE is the Notification Drawer.

I just tell people I play with my software and they drop it. The ones that root know what I mean. I like where this is going though! Awesome to see development work this early on.

Agreed.  I would certainly chip in for the light version.  It goes much better with the updates to the dialer/contacts/messaging apps.  Now if they could just do something about making the calendar match.
