Towelroot Guide Post September Update-Newbies

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone I'm just making it easier for folks to do towelroot method WITHOUT TRIPPING KNOX (CONFIRMED) for the ones who accepted the September update on the kernel. Consolidating all the threads posted, here it is...

1. Download towelroot from the site https://towelroot.com

2. Download SU from the play store.

3. Download odin v3.09 (worked for me). https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358547889

4. Download the ANCFboot.tar file. (Pre September kernel update) http://upload.teamuscellular.com/39b

5. Download the ANG3boot.tar file. (Post September kernel update) http://upload.teamuscellular.com/39c

6. You definitely want to make sure your computer recognizes your device by drivers. I'm almost certain when the phone is in download mode (next step) it takes a different driver.

7. To start in download mode Power off the device. Press and hold the volume down key while holding the home button, following the power button.

8. You will be greeted with a warning screen about installing a custom os. Just ignore the prompt and hit the volume up key once then you will be in download mode.

9. Plug in the device into the computer. Using a 3.0 usb port is not recommended from this point on for it may cause driver issues or conflicts with this process.

10. Open odin. You should see your decice on there as a COM port number listed. If not its still lacking drivers.

11. In odin click on the ap box select the file ANCFboot.tar

12. Hit start and it should upload to your device then restart. DO NOT UNPLUG

13. At this point it should say updating/upgrading apps/android system. This is normal and your phone may act weird or very slow.

14. Open towelroot app once installed and hit make it ra1n and should be successful.

15. Open the SU app and it will ask about updating the binary and hit normal. It will also say knox is detected do you wish to disable. YES

16. Run root check basic to verify you have root. At this point you should have. Your not done yet!

17. Repeat step 7 and instead of using file ANCFboot.tar like in step 10-12 use file ANG3boot.tar. Device should restart.

ALL DONE!! If your curious about your knox counter for warranty just do step 7. To leave hold power button until screen is black.

This is not my work all credit goes to geohot and the wonderful people of teamuscellular. I will not be helping on technical difficulties for I am way too busy in my life. Happy rooting!  ::)

There are other route message, including ones that have worked for the last 5 years and the message never changed.

In my opinion the Odin method seems easier, but maybe it's because I'm so used to doing it that way. Takes like 5 minutes.

It's because people don't want to trip Knox. Which was more of an issue before and not now really. I have yet to hear of anyone being charged for it. Simply don't mention it, and they 99% won't look.
