Device Financing prior to Shared Connect

Question

So I'm looking at getting the new S6 Edge in the next couple days. My question is since I'm on an old belief plan, although I know I can push them and get subsidized pricing, it may be beneficial to just get it through device installment agreement.

That is if when I switch to shared connect in June when my unlimited 4g promo ends and they push me off, would I still get the connection discounts seeing as the device installment would already been in effect? Because if that's the case then when I do switch to shared connect I'd be getting a net about +$60 seeing as I have 3 lines that would be discounted $30 and the financing for the S6 Edge is ~$35. I don't plan on ever giving them the phone back since I hand down my smart phones as we upgrade which is why I've always gone the subsidy path.

Do I need to have an upgrade available to begin a Retail Installment Agreement?

Yes the line of service needs to be eligible for a new discounted device. Even for financing.
