Google Phone App - Will Nexus 6 get the spam warning feature?

Recommended Posts

My wife and I both have Nexus 6 phones.  Hers is running stock M (updated with latest updates) and mind is running the lastest update of N.  Neither one seems to have gotten the updated phone app that includes the Spam warning feature.  Does anyone know if this will be coming to the N6?  Everything from Google just says nexus devices running version 6+.   I haven't been able to find much outside of google posts.  I figured that would be at least hers, if not mine on N.  Neither device is rooted.  Any thoughts are appreciated.

This is what I am referring to.

Yeah, sorry, I just checked and its now there. Must have just installed in the last few days.  Sorry. You can delete this thread.  I had been waiting for it. I just got what I knew was a spam call and thought about asking.  Guess its not going to help much.  Sorry for the bad thread.

I've noticed that Truecaller is just as worthless as Google's built in system since they always call from different numbers - it never KNOWS it's spam and never has flags since they use several different numbers every day.

The only true way to stop the BS calls would be to have a built in "block all calls not in contacts" setting. Which LG, Samsung, and Apple all have. It's just Google that doesn't include it.

How do you turn that on with the lg, block all calls not in contacts? I had to get a third party app to send calls to voicemail automatically after adding them to the list of callers to do it to... it is not native in her g4 any more since getting the recent updates to what Android m I think....

I suppose I can't speak for the G4/5 as I only had the G3, but I'll look in the setting, I knew it was there - I'll find it again.

It would be weird/stupid for them to remove it, but again I'll get my G3 later today and get screenshots of how it was done.

EDIT - in the dialer, go to Settings > Call Rejection

Here you can select to block from list, and I created a list that was "starts with" and entered every number that wasn't an area code around me. So, I live in 515, I blocked everything starting with a 0-4 and 6-9, then 52, 53, 54, 55, etc... So that it would have to start with 51 in order for it to ring.

You could take it even further, but nah - and I was wrong, I thought it explicitly had that "not in contacts" ability, I could swear it did at a point, but I don't see that now.  I'm sorry for that.

Ya on the G4 that "in the dialer, go to Settings > Call Rejection" isn't there on my wife's G4... She has the latest version on Android, would that control the dialer or would that be the LG software?

Also, I have seen things removed from newer Android versions that we there before so this wouldn't surprise me...

I don't understand why you'd want to block calls that aren't in your contact list. Not ALL calls are spam. I'd never be able get a hold of a customer if everyone did this

True, but in my case, I don't care if they are or aren't spam.  If your number isn't in my contacts, it goes to voicemail.  They can leave a VM, text me, whatever they want, but if I dont know the number I dont care who it is, I wont answer anyway.

I get 2-3 of these calls every day, have since 2009, and I've tried everything in my power to stop it.  I've filed thousands of complaints with the FCC, the Do Not Call list is a POS and doesnt help at all (theyre scammers, that list doesnt matter), and changing my number is next on my list, and is still a very likely option.

BUT - all this, every call Ive gotten, never had the same number call twice.  They spoof the number, and it's to a point where I take that "jerk" approach to it, If I dont know the number, I couldn't care less who it is, I'm not answering it.

Thats why that option is important to me, out of all calls I get only 1 per month is ever from a real person that called from a number I didn't know.  The rest are scams.

I agree, I'd love a block numbers not in contacts feature. I currently have to just ignore them.

Oh boy I can't even get NFC to transfer files from her phone now that she had the last update and I even had to uninstall Android pay in order to try to NFC beam... What a joke.

Any how, here are her screen shots showing her options from the dialer

With TrueCaller/Dialer you can mark it as spam, add it to the data base and black list it in 2 clicks. It's more proactive, I think, than just ignoring it

That WOULD work, if they called from the same number more than once. They never call from the same number twice, so the only true solution, other than getting the bastards stopped, is to just not answer any call from a number you don't know.

In theory yes that would work, but in this scenario it has no effect because they still ring every single time.

Got to call restrictions, should be in there.

Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

There is no call restrictions. I have the screen shots there where would it be? It isn't there...

Maybe my posts should be spawned to a new thread in the g4 forum... Any mods care to do that?

Also anyone else with the g4 stock unrooted plain as it came out of the box have this so called call restrictions?

It isn't there is it...

I know I'm in some kind of recurring robo-dialing BS system.  Ive done everything possible to stop it, messed with them, recorded it, put it on YT, sent the recordings to the FCC, local authorities, FBI, and even had several meetings with my lawyer about potentially going after them via getting a subpoena and forcing uscc to give us the "origin" of the call rather than the retarded caller-id info (since it's f-ing fake anyway) - but I would spend far more going after them than I'd ever get in return.

Thats why I log every single call, every number, and record them when I can so I have a stupid-strong case against them if I ever get the chance.

As it sits, no carrier does anything to combat this, Google is starting to, but it's nearly impossible to stop them because how can the system know its a spam number when it's never been used before?  I suppose they could log when a certain number calls a LOT of people at the same time?  IDK, but if I had the ability to go after them on ANY level, legal or illegal, id do it in a heartbeat.

I straight up ran out of other options and patience.  I dont care about any call enough to answer it if i dont know it, if they dont leave a VM, they get added to my growing list of scam calls, if they do, I add them to my contacts.  I want them stopped by any means, from physical violence to legal procedure, i dont care, I'll chip into a bounty if it means someone gets hurt - so be it.  I can't really express my anger towards it without cussing, idk how to stop it.

I fear that you're right. I just wish there was a pool of numbers that were "unique" per se, that weren't really public knowledge and that a robo-dialer wouldn't be programmed to call.

Idk. I wish I could custom pick that number.

In your 4th screenshot. Right below DTMF tones, under "others"

Okay so I go in there and there is really only one option... Allow all or only those in contacts.

Why can't you send them directly to voicemail option like the Moto x has...

Or does allowing only those in contacts automatically sends all others to voicemail?
